The Sum of Everything

The Sum of Everything - April Kelley I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Greg grew up in a household with parents who were abusive towards each other. Unable to cope with the abuse any longer he runs away and in the process ends up at the Heath Farm. The night his father is released from jail, he visits Greg and and threatens him. Afraid of the threat his father makes, Greg, abstains from any romantic relationship.

Brian is an accountant Greg has a crush on since he first laid eyes on it. When words gets to Greg that his father is on his death bed, Greg lets loose one night at a party Brian is attending.

I kind of had love/hate relationship with the book. There were things that bothered me and things I really liked about the book. The minor editing hiccups detracted from my enjoyment of the book since the mistakes were repeatedly occurring.

The characters owning up to their bad behavior was something I really liked seeing. Brian came off as a really self-centered immature brat and I really disliked him for being so until he admitted he was one. The same went in the case of Greg and the angry outbursts he had.

Towards the end of the book I felt like a lot of issues/drama was unfolding in such a short time (i.e. the jealousy/misunderstanding about Brian sitting on Jackson's lap, the accident, Greg's recovery, Greg forgiving Brian and the sex while he's recovering, and Brad's apology). It just all felt like it got crammed in there instead of seemingly like it progressed at a natural pace. it was pretty soap opera-ish. Don't get me wrong, it made for an intriguing read but it just stuck with me how quick it came and went. During the reading I did find myself curious about the other stories for the men of Pickleville.
