Doubleback

Doubleback - Lissa Ford I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The blurb give a spectacular summary of what the book is all about. Jude is disgraced in the line of duty when he hesitates while on a case resulting in a few deaths. Disgraced and psychologically damaged he retires and moves to the outskirts of New York (can't remember where it was exactly). Then one morning he wakes up to stubble over a dead body on his porch. The body belongs to the one night stand he allows himself after a prolong time of celibacy. To make matters worst, his ex, whom he's not totally over, shows up as lead investigator. The sparks fly between the two and passion is reignited between the two. With threats rising towards Jude and affecting those he comes in contact with him, time is of the essence.

I found the story truly riveting. I couldn't finish it in one sitting because I had to go to work. But the time I wasn't reading it, had me thinking about it and how soon I could finish it. I literally didn't want to put it down and if I could have I would have hidden in the bathroom or backroom to finish it. My only complaint is that I wished I got to know both characters better. The focus of the story this time around was Jude and readers get the basic of how his life went to hell. I would have liked to have learned a few choice tidbit information about both Rowan and Jude's life. Still it was a lovely read and both characters were quite lovable. I enjoyed seeing them together, how passionate and strong their relationship had been and still could be. The author did a great job keeping the mystery of 'whodunit' I kept on bouncing back from the three suspects I had in mind for those targeting Jude. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the two.
