A little darker than I was expecting it to be. The idea was okay (not quite original) and the atmosphere had that creepy vibe associated with it. The way the story was executed reminded me a bit of Interview with a Vampire.
I did like the story and it was interesting finding out how Nicholas arrived in his predicament but I just thought a majority of the story wasn't exciting enough. There was a time or two where I wanted to put the book aside because the story just wasn't come at a quick enough pace for me.
I couldn't respect the choices Nicholas made in the book when he was discovering all these ominous details about the Blackwoods. It also felt off the way one moment he couldn't stand to be in the company of Sebastian and then he comes to the realization he's in love with the guy. The transition from one to the other just wasn't smooth and it was hard to come to terms with how quickly Nicholas feelings just changed.
