Dean Noble is a fifteen year old boy who goes to an all boys private school until his mom runs into a little trouble. Dean then has to enroll into public school and is happy to so since there will be girls and he wants a relationship. But the first day proves disastrous and Dean is saved by Nick Marikakis. Nick right off the bat identifies Dean as gay. Nick's sister takes notice of Dean and is quite taken with him. Knowing Nick won't allow her to date,Jessica, Nick's sister talks Dean into pretending he's gay. Things get a bit crazy for Dean after that. Dean and Nick then find themselves in each other company when Dean is enlisted to help Nick with algebra.
Nick seems a bit more mature at the start but quickly makes his young age known. It's hard to decipher how old everyone else in the book is since no other ages are mentioned. Jimmy, Nick's bestfriend was very clingy and needy. With the amount of crying he did I'm not sure how Jimmy's family didn't suspect or even infer what was happening to Jimmy to upset him so. Jimmy also makes a comment about Dean being gay because he calls Nick "Nicky" but during their meeting never does Dean call Nick "Nicky". Jessica also became extremely attached to Dean quickly. He's barely in school a week and I don't think they could have gotten attached so quickly. Also Nick relationship with Jimmy had a lot of skinship involved I just thought it was no wonder Jimmy was confused about it all. Nick just came off as someone who enjoyed pleasure regardless who his partner was. I'm not even sure how he created a moment with Dean in the bathroom that leads to them making out. The onslaught of lust after playing cold turkey seemed far fetched to me. All the back and forth between them was tiring to watch. It was a bit of passion of the moment thing when they got home to Dean's house. The ending felt like a hallmark or even LMN movie.
I think the best thing about this book was the cover. I really loved it and actually stopped reading several times just to look at the cover. I was hoping the author would have used it as a prompt in the story somewhere.
