True Colors

True Colors - Anyta Sunday Oskar Richter and Marco Brandt have been neighbors and best friends for thirteen years. They had nine years of friendship under their belts up until Oskar tears them apart. When Oskar moves back to Berlin after being away for fifteen months, Marco finds he’s still hurt and wants nothing to do with Oskar even if he can't help but feel attracted to him. Oskar wants to mend their friendship and keeps showing up wherever Marco is. In fact everyone wants them to mend their friendship. When Marco’s dad finishes up the play Marco’s deceased mom didn’t finish, it’s seems like the best opportunity to bring the boys back together.

It's been a long time since I've read an Anyta Sunday story and I can't remember why I haven't kept up with her writing. True Colors was a wonderful story about second chances, moving on and growing up. I really loved it and getting to know all the characters, not just Oskar and Marco. I loved that the two had people to depend on even if sexuality seemed like a problem. Marco and Oskar's relationship inspired so many emotions. My heart hurt from Marco's pain and Oskar's betrayal. I was very invested in what broke them and rooting for them to mend their relationship. Marco and his father's grief hurt too but I loved the way they chose to honor and remember Mama. Also Marco deciding to face his issues was very inspiring I was so proud that he decided to tackle his body image issues and coming out

I also liked the formatting and subheading titles for each chapter. This is one of my favorite reads of the year. I hope the author decides to revisit these characters in a short or something just to see how they are a few years down the road.
