The Secrets in My Scowl

The Secrets in My Scowl - A.E. Via A free copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

3.5ish stars

Jacob has been burned one too many times in his life and it's caused him to become closed off and jaded about love. In fact, he's become a family lawyer handling divorces.

Wylde is a very successful wedding planner who decides to move to open his own company. The place he has picked to open his business just happens to be across from Jacob's own practice. The two butt head quite a few times but Wylde recognizes what Jacob has and is still going through and isn't scared off by Jacob's gruff exterior.

It doesn't hurt that the two feel an attraction for each other. In fact Wylde inspires feelings in Jacob that Jacob hasn't felt in a long time and it scares him. Wylde is patient though and more than willing to show Jacob he'll be there to catch him if he falls.

There was quite a few grammar issues and I had to reread a few sentence to make sure it wasn't my brain playing tricks on me.

What I liked:
1) The growth/development/ regression of Jacob when Wylde came into his life. While he was scared he still went ahead and tried with Wylde and he experienced things he hadn't before.
2) Wylde's approach at life. He was spontaneous, fun loving, and more than willing to fight for Jacob even when Jacob was all in his face. Wylde's willingness to fight for Jacob was sweet and said a lot about the character he was.
3) Wylde and Jacob's flirtation with each other before and after meeting and forming a relationship. I enjoyed them getting to know each other and being supportive.
4) Character development i.e. Jacob's backstory and all the situations he found himself in to make him who he was.

What I didn't like:
1) Jacob's disdain for love and relationships. Yeah, he was burned and whatever but it was such a downer to see all the situations play out and then have him wallow in it for years. Seriously when it rained on Jacob, it rained really really hard. The universe just seemed to shit on him over and over and instead of going in a more positive direction he became so negative.
2) Everyone (his mom, dad, ex, etc) coming out of the woodwork all at once and Jacob having to deal with that shit storm. It extremely frustrating.
3) The sappiness towards the end of the book when Jacob was being confronted left and right by people wanted something from him.
