A Family Affair

A Family Affair - Max Hudson It’s 1941 and Walter Lombardi who is almost 40 yrs old is growing tired of his position in mob. He wants a higher position but it doesn’t seem as if he’s going to get it anytime soon. It’s suggested by his brother in law that he tries a different smaller affiliate crime family in California.

Carlo Aspromonte is the son of the mistress to the head of the Aspromonte family. The surname gives Carlo some much needed protection. Upon meeting Walter, Carlo becomes quite taken with Walter.

Walter first task for the family is to solve where their missing merchandise has gone. With the promise of advancement in the ranks of the Aspromonte family, Walter is willing to do anything.

Carlo’s obsession with enlisting and being part of WWII was noble but in a way annoying. I felt if he felt so strongly about it he should have just done it instead of mentioning it to others.

The seduction of Walter came quite easily and I’m not sure how his inclinations were never discovered before. Carlo too, with how blatantly he followed Walter. That being said I did enjoy the story. It was an interesting time period and it was interesting how rampant crime ran and how the families worked.

An ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.
