Finn

Finn - Morgan Campbell When I read Grayson book 1 in the Bully series I wasn’t sure I really liked Finn all that much in fact my feelings toward him were pretty neutral. But reading Finn’s side of things really didn’t endear me to him. I do feel for him about all the abuse he had to stomach and how both his parents pretty much failed him. He was forced to make decisions and grow up too quickly. That being said I feel like the choices he made could have had a better turnout had he chose better.

For a few chapters at the start, the subheadings of the chapters, were throwing me off. Finn at ages 10, 13, and 16 kind of meshed all together and the time frame of the scenarios and at what age just didn’t work and confused me since I was trying to chronologies it all and pinpoint a time frame. I might have just been overthinking this portion of the story.

Finn’s father reasoning for abusing Finn was unexpected and I actually didn’t like it because it seemed made up (which is the case, this being fiction) and really embellished. I felt the author could have just left out the part with Finn’s grandmother going through what she went through.

The story picks up from where Grayson ends in the last three chapters of the book. I felt it was too short and I expected a bit more buildup towards their HEA. I did get a bit mad when Grayson decided to label Finn a hero. I didn’t like that term applied to him at all. In fact, going back over this book, readers just get to see Finn get abused, gain a little more freedom, and then going on a sexual exploration not caring who he hurt in the process. I guess him taking the beatings so as not to draw attention to his younger siblings was brave but his decision to participate in the bullying of Grayson was anything but.

Like Book 1, it was hard to be invested in the characters and I was still feeling a bit detached from them. I just couldn't connect. A small part of me felt their relationship wasn't sincere and needed strengthening. Another part of me told myself to just shut it, that they'll be okay and had their family. Any who, I did enjoy the story and revisiting Grayson, Finn and their family and friends.

An ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.
