Blood and Choice

Blood and Choice - Clare Solomon 3.5 stars

I did not read the previous books that predate this one but from the other blurbs gleamed that this could be read as a standalone for the most part. There are characters from the previous books that show up in this one so be warned there were be some spoilers concerning the characters relationship status. It might be better just to read the previous books to enhance your reading pleasure. Me, I choose to skip them just because of time.

That being said, when I started reading it I felt I was missing some world development progression. I felt a bit disoriented, a bit like being the new kid in class and not having a clique, since Liam and Tig (also referred to as Richard as a child) and all the members of HyCo were so comfortable with each other. It took a couple chapters before I grasped what was happening. From there the book was enjoyable and quite exciting.

Liam, Tig and their companions and other law enforcement in Ivercade are fighting to keep their city safe from wendigo, monsters who cannibalize human and hybrids. In this installment, Ivercade has just ended a war against the Wendigo and a new norm has settled over the community. But new danger emerges from the darkness putting the citizens of Ivercade in danger yet again.

There was nice action, character and relationship development and intriguing twist with just a touch of betrayal. I liked that the author revealed what was happening with the wendigo and revealed that they were more than they seemed or even what the citizens of Ivercade knew them to be.

Liam’s over-protectiveness in regards to Tig was a little annoying and stifling. I could understand Tig’s annoyance at Liam for being so clingy and anxious over him. I felt it was a bit of a issue considering Liam was letting it affect his job at HyCo.

A free copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.
