Starting this book I wasn't so sure I was going to like it. For some reason I kept on thinking the chapters would have alternating perspectives from Andrew and Nick but the story is told wholly from Nick's perspective and we learn quite a bit about him. That being said readers also get to know Andrew pretty darn well. The two don't get off on the right footing since Andrew is a prick to Nick. But Nick proves his muster on the job and earns the respect of everyone in the fire department he works with as an EMT. From there the two become quite close friends and Nick comes to realize he's in love with his work partner. He tries to fight his feelings to persevere their friendship. He does pretty well until Andrew breaks up with his girlfriend and he's asked to accompany Andrew on a road trip.
I enjoyed learning about Nick and Andrew. Nick's feelings were so clear cut through out the read and I did feel for him. I loved the dynamic between the two, the camaraderie and playfulness. I liked that they were supportive but never over pushed boundaries. I really wished to see these two maybe five to ten years down the line and seeing what kind of potential Nick aspired to. There was nice growth between them and I liked seeing what types of life experiences they had in common.
